Fractional microneedle radio frequency (RF) treatment for acne, acne scars and large pores

Fractional microneedle radio frequency (RF) treatment for acne, acne scars and large pores

Acne scars
Scars often develop either during or after active acne. Atrophic scars that sink below the skin level, typically appear on the face. They mainly develop with the healing of larger, inflamed acne nodules, when the inflammation results in the destruction of the entire sebaceous gland. There are three types of acne scars. Rolling scar: a scar with a base wider than 4-5 mm, with rounded edges and a wavy shape, which is formed when the epidermis is pulled down by the anchoring collagen fibers at the epidermal-dermal border. Icepick scars are narrow (smaller than 2 mm), V-shaped, sharply marginated, extend vertically to deep dermis. Boxcar scars are round to oval depressions with sharply demarcated vertical edges. They are wider at the surface than icepick scars and do not taper to a point at the base. Unfortunately, the acne scars usually more pronounced during the ageing.

During the treatment, the goal is to replace the damaged collagen and elastic fibers of the dermis with fresh, normal-structured fibers. Collagen and elastic fibers are only regenerated if the fibroblasts are stimulated to work more intensively with some therapeutic procedure. The new fractional microneedle radio frequency (RF) treatment is an effective and spectacular method for smoothing acne scars, shrinking pores, and even active acne can be treated with it. It combines the effects and benefits of fractional laser, traditional radio frequency, dermaroller and LED therapy. It works by stimulating the skin's own self-healing processes. There is no upper age limit of fractional microneedle RF treatment. If the treatment is carried out at an age when signs of skin aging are already visible, it also results in facial rejuvenation. The texture of the skin is renewed, the depth of wrinkles decreases, the skin becomes noticeably fresher, it becomes tighter due to its volume-enhancing effect, and the lower third of the face is lifted.

How does fractional microneedle RF treatment work?
The treatment combines the effects of three methods: the thermal energy of RF, the micro-injuries of needle punctures, and LED therapy. The device has two types of micro needles, both types contain 36 needles in the 1 cm2 treatment head. The needles are driven into the skin by an electric motor, and in the meantime, the depth of the needling, the frequency of the RF, the duration of the RF, the intensity of the RF, and the color of the LED light can be tailored. In the case of active acne, acne scars or large pores, we use the non-insulated needle. In these case the entire length is heated by the radio frequency. The radiofrequency thermal energy creates column-like, fractional coagulation in the epidermis and dermis. On the one hand, rapid regeneration takes place from the intact areas between the coagulation zones, and on the other hand, the substances are released from here, which, according to histological examinations, initiate the formation of collagen and elastic fibers in the fibroblasts. The thermal effect of the RF heats the skin to 50-60 °C, causing the collagen fibers to contract and tighten. This results in more elastic, tighter skin that is visible immediately after the treatment, and for this reason the skin will be particularly tight for a few days after the treatment. The pricking effect of the microneedles causes small injuries in the epidermis and dermis, which is another stimulus for the fibroblasts to increase their collagen and elastic fibers production. The blue LED light improves the condition of acne-prone skin.

Effects of fractional microneedle RF treatment

  • It makes the skin tighter
  • It increases the volume of the skin
  • It decreases the the depth of wrinkles
  • It decreases the the depth of acne scars
  • It provides a more even skin surface
  • It decreases the sebum production
  • It tightens the large pores

What are the advantages of fractional microneedle RF treatment?

  • There is no pain
  • Safe on the whole face
  • In a mild case, one treatment causes a clearly visible result
  • There is a very short downtime, you can do your daily activity the next day
  • It can be used safely in the case of dark skin and in summer because the energy of RF doesn’t absorbed by melanin

What should you do before fractional microneedle RF treatment?
If you often have herpes, you need to take pills to prevent it. Avoid strong sunlight and don't use solarium for 2 weeks before the treatment.

How do we perform the fractional microneedle RF treatment?
The first step of the treatment is a quick, mild peel for the removal the top, dead skin layer. This promotes the effect of the anesthetic cream, so you don't feel even the slightest pain during the treatment. The application time of anesthetic cream is 30 minutes. The treatment is performed on the entire face and lasts 60 minutes.

What do you need to do after a fractional microneedle RF treatment?
Fractional microneedle RF treatment is not associated with wound formation. After the treatment, the skin is slightly tense and red, but the redness disappears within a few hours. Use micellar water to clean the treated area. In the first 1-2 days, it is necessary to hydrate the skin several times. Saunas, solariums, steam baths, and sweaty activities are not allowed for 48 hours after the treatment. Acid peel should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. The use of SPF 50 sunscreen is also recommended for at least 2 weeks to avoid irritation of the renewing skin.

How many fractional microneedle RF treatments are recommended?
The skin becomes noticeably younger after just 1 week, the regenerated epitdermis makes the skin softer and smoother. The depth of acne scars decreases, the size of pores and the production of sebum decreases. Fine wrinkles and unevenness disappear, the skin color becomes uniform. The full result will develop within 3-6 months after the treatment. During this time, the production of new collagen and elastic fibers takes place in the dermis. In most cases, some repeated treatments in every 4 weeks are necessary in order to replace the entire epidermis and dermis, as well as to produce a sufficient amount of collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis, which can permanently ensure the desired tightness and elasticity of the skin. The number of inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne lesions decrease significantly. The inflammatory acne lesions showed better improvement than the non-inflammatory lesions. The treatment is repeated according to your individual needs.

When do we not perform fractional microneedle RF treatment?
During pregnancy, botox treatment within the last two weeks, in the case of active dermatitis, or sores in the treatment area.
